Right now, you should focus on doing well in your high school courses so that you can get into a good college or university. You should also take the SAT or ACT if you haven't yet done so.

You will need to take a lot of science courses, and major in a scientific field, in college. So the more science courses you can take now in high school, the better. Also, if you can set up an arrangement with your guidance counselor to job shadow or intern with a practicing optometrist, that would help a lot, too.

When you get to college, make sure you take all the courses needed to move ahead to your career. My best friend in college became an optometrist, and she majored in Chemistry; but I think you could major in other science fields, too. The important thing is to keep in close communication with your advisor or career counselor to stay on the right path.

For now, as I said, focus on getting good grades and taking steps to get into a good program of study in a college or university. Also, it's always a good idea to talk to a practicing optometrist to get tips, ideas, and contact information.

Good luck with your plans!
