Adrienne Rich’s Collected Early Poems, 1950- 1970 is an impressive collection. The mode is primarily lyric, although a few of the poems have narrative elements and some are strong thematic statements. One critic, Helen Vendler, has divided Rich’s poetry into the psychological and the didactic.
