Students Speak Out On Overall Experience

“It's hard to get used to, but a blast once you have warmed up to cold weather, eccentric people, high intelligence, and isolation. The school is full of surprises and clichés at the same time. There are kids who drive a Mercedes everywhere and fly to Europe when they get bored, but there are always financial aid kids who hang out in the library, because they don't have their own computer—it's a hell of a place. It's an amazing place once you have learned to love it, and you are able to meet people that will make your life that much fuller. Take the pains with the pleasure, and wash it down with alcohol while your buddy carries you home from a blowout party, just enjoy your time in the la-la land of Colgate. I was told that after surviving Colgate, I could be dropped in the middle of Siberia, and I would find a way to cope and have fun.”

“So far, I have really enjoyed my time at Colgate. I have experienced some of the best times of my life, and some of the toughest. While I never thought Colgate would be the quasi-elitist party school that it is, it has given me the opportunity to experience a life that I have never encountered before in southern New Jersey. If college is the time in your life to have fun, party, and put in only as much effort as you like, then Colgate is the perfect place. However, I have noticed over the past two years that I am much more inquisitive and intelligent now than I was before I arrived in Hamilton, New York. I have thus far received an excellent education and met some of the greatest people I have ever known, and would not trade this experience for any Ivy League institution or state institution closer to a major city.”
