In his 1967 adaptation of In Cold Blood for the screen, director Peter Brooks tried to attain the hyperrealism of the book by actually filming the movie at the scene of the crime in Holcomb, Kansas. He felt the story was the American equivalent of Greek tragedy and the movie is certainly ambitious in feeling and intent.
