School Spirit

While varsity sports might not be huge, Colby spirit is alive and well. Some people are apathetic, but rivalries with Bates and Bowdoin, as well as common feelings about Bro, can incite even the least spirited students to bouts of chanting. Many students feel that Colby's traditions, especially the Doghead St. Patrick's Day party and the last day of class events, are being eliminated. These perceived injustices have led to some of the biggest displays of school spirit all year. Pretty much every car has a Colby sticker on it, and athletes love to wear their Colby gear. Students are proud of Beer Die and take offense when insults are leveled at the school. A recent article in Yale's newspaper describing Colby students as immature lushes prompted immediate outcry. The school spirit at Colby is not overwhelming or football-driven, but it is definitely present and palpable.
