Foreshadowing
Foreshadowing is a technique that lets a reader guess where a story is headed even though the characters participating in the drama aren’t aware of it. Rather than slow the story down, it allows the story to function on a higher level of meaning: The reader no longer wonders what will happen, but when and how?
