The major characters in this story are Ebenezer Scrooge, the main character, Jacob Marley, Scrooge's old business partner who warns him about upcoming visits from the ghosts, the ghost of Christmas Past, the Ghost of Christmas Present and the Ghost of Christmases to Come. Fred, Scrooge's nephew tries to get his uncle to come to Christmas dinner at the beginning of the story. Scrooge also employs Bob Crachit, who along with his children, Martha, Peter and Tiny Tim also play roles in the story. The story also includes Belle, an old girlfriend who left Scrooge when they were younger, Old Fezziwig, Scrooge's old employer, and Fan Scrooge, Scrooge's sister who died. In the vision of the future, Mrs. Dilber sells some of Scrooge's clothing and Fred buys some of the clothing. There is also a young boy who Scrooge sends to buy a Christmas goose in the final part of the story
