In what ways do the narratives of Dicken's and Hardy reflect mechanisms which are typical of victorian literature?

    The narratives in Dickens' and Hardy's novels described poor people whose struggles were idealized; however hard work and  perseverance usually won over evil. Virtue was always rewarded, in the end, and the morally selfish and cruel were punished. There was a moral lesson. Dickens' novels were more strictly Victorian while Hardy's came later and were sort of dark. During the Victorian era scientific thought was emerging. As a result the Victorian writers took it upon themselves to focus on the natural world. Therefore, in the narratives of Dicken's and Hardy, especially Hardy, there is much description of the forces of the natural world and how these forces influence people's behavior.
