You don't say between what staves. After Marley left, Scrooge told himself that he had imagined the visit. However, in Stave Two, when the clock struck the hour, he did expect something. He resisted the first ghost, but when the Ghost of Christmas Present appeared, he was willing to learn his lesson. By the time the last ghost showed up, he was ready, as he knew they meant to do him good. Each stave saw Scrooge more and more willing to accompany the ghosts. And of course, by the end, you know that he not only learned his lesson, he put his newfound knowledge into practice.
