Know the slang, know the school. The following is a list of things you really need to know before coming to Centre. The more of these words you know, the better off you'll be.

Ale 8

A pop-like beverage only produced in Kentucky.

Breck Beach

The grass lawn outside of Breck that has sunbathers and cookouts when the weather permits

Crush

A theme party held twice a year, in the fall and spring, by sororities

Derby

A horse race held once a year in Louisville, a great sophisticated party day

Dropped Trou

To drop one's drawers, specifically in instances of public urination

Facebook

An online service that allows you to post a picture, quotes, and personal information

Formal

An event held once a year that involves wild weekend fun for fraternity boys and more demur prom-like dances for sororities

The Grille

Lunch hangout on the second floor of the Warehouse

Midnight Movie

Wednesdays throughout the school year SAC sponsors free movies at midnight for students.

Mint Julep

The official drink of the Kentucky Derby

The Mugbook

A Centreissued book that has face shots of the students, faculty, and staff, along with student phone numbers and dorm residences

Northside

The north side of campus including Hillside, Acheson/Calwell, Cheek/Evans, Yerkes, and Cheek Emeritus

The Po

Centre's post office

The Quad

A grouping of dorms near the tennis courts

The Row

The Greek houses

The Slo

The Student Life Office

Solo Cup

Your best friend on weekends, the cup that houses your alcohol

Spooning

Snuggling or cuddling that is akin to the way two spoons stack

STA

The Student Activities Council, run by students and an advisor; this club plans campus events.
