    Robert, the blind man, has known the narrator’s wife for many years. They met when the narrator’s wife took a job reading for Robert. They became good friends, and upon her leaving, Robert asks to feel her face, an intimate gesture that has bonded them. The two still keep in touch through taped letters. Since Robert’s wife has just passed, he is going to be passing through on his way to Connecticut to visit his wife’s family. Robert plans to stay with the narrator and his wife for the night.
