    Hi, Cortina.  There is a difference between a moral and a theme.  Morals are associated with fables, for example.  The theme (STATEMENT ON LIFE or TRUISM--a general truth about life) of The Catbird Seat would be "Don't let people take advantage of you," "Don't let kindness be misconstrued as passivity, "Never get too comfortable in life; there's always someone on your heels to disrupt, hurt, or stab you."  Try working with these.  Remember that the theme isn't something explicit from the story, but it is something, or a message, that the story presents for us in terms of a life lesson.
