    Mr. Martin was so fastidious in his job, in part, because he did have such pride in his work.  He was methodical and precise because his job - accounting - required that.  It was his determination to continue in his methodology and his dedication to doing a good job at his job that led him to decide to get rid of Mrs. Barrows.  Mrs. Barrows, on the other hand, was also good at her job.  She was a corporate redesigner; she looked at businesses and found ways to make them more efficient and therefore better.  She had a completely different way of doing things than Mr. Martin did, but she was good at what she did. Her personality was the exact opposite, in most ways, of Mr. Martin's but they both were alike in their desire to do good work. Both of them took great pride in being good at what they did.
