Posted by rowens on Tuesday July 28, 2009 at 6:20 AMYou probably can't find a summary of this obscure novella for a couple of reasons. Not many people I know have even heard of it, and because it isn't regularly studied in school, most people won't discover it. Fortunately for you, enotes does have a summary in their Masterplots series.
I did read this book in one college class, but the focus was strictly on the women in it and how they were used allegorically to represent the injustices and cruelty of England against the Irish.
The Novella is certainly a satirical look at the relationship between Ireland and England, but as with all good books, more than one interpretation can be made.
Below is a link to Masterplots' summary of the novella and the Cylcopedia of Literary Places' discussion of Castle Rackrent. Since the story is likely short enough for you to read quickly, I am also providing a link to the full text. I hope this is helpful.
