    Carolyn Forche has resided in Paris, Beirut, and South Africa, among other places. She has also worked in El Salvador, and done translations of many different languages. The dialect that she has is a mixture of the various languages with which she is most comfortable. For instance, if one listens closely, you will hear the guttural French "R" used in some of her speaking, while at other times, she sounds very British (South Africans speak with a mixed British accent, largely). Her mastery of many different languages accounts for the way she talks.
