Students Speak Out On Overall Experience

β€œIt's a lot of work, that's for sure. I would definitely say that we get a lot more work than most Ivy schools, from what I've heard. If you're at CMU, and you're majoring in something that we're not known for, then I would definitely go elsewhere. If you're coming here for computers or engineering, and maybe business, then the opportunities are endless. I would never change schools for anything. Then again, I'm someone who would be comfortable anywhere. But, if you do come to CMU for any of those majors, be prepared to work your butt off. I believe CMU has a lot of weird people, but that's just because you're surrounded by people who are doing truly amazing things. I'm always impressed by my peers and I'm always proud of my school, but the social thing is not one of our strong points. You can get by, but it's definitely not one of our strengths.”

β€œThis school is not for everybody. CMU is a good institution that requires a lot of patience when dealing with the social scene and academic community. People here are weird. The campus is split into many subgroups of interests and studies. Do not believe what the school tells you about interdisciplinary studies; It's a crock! If I had to do it over again, I would go to a state school with a good media arts department. If you were a fairly social person in high school and enjoy going to parties and interacting with interesting and stimulating people, don't come to CMU. If you never took your head out of the books and now want a school that will accept you for being all the dork you can be, welcome home.”
