Carnegie Mellon University
School Spirit
Even if students aren't bursting with school spirit, they're still proud of the Carnegie Mellon name. Because there's an overwhelming lack of popular sports teams and the colleges within the University are fairly segregated, students don't have much to unite and rally around. Engineers, drama students, business majors, and arc-ies (Architecture) all swell with pride for their fields of study. It's not uncommon to see students wearing clothing that bears the CMU logo, but it's rare that students will dress up beyond that. During the popular Carnival Week, when students are racing in buggies and building booths, school spirit is at a yearly high. A fair share of the on-campus population will even express a subdued hatred for the University because of all the work they have to do.
