It is here that Shaw refers to 'the mystery in the heart of the poet'.
Does the secret relate to the love left hidden in the heart of the poet? To me, the 'mystery'/ secret is the creative passion with which the poet produces his work of art, a passion that makes the poet restless. Marchbanks faces the profound darkness; he seems to approximate the Creator, prior to the genesis of the world.
