What are the differences between power and authority in management?

    Someone in management can have power to give another authority to do something.

    For example.  The acting manager at Mc Donald's has the power to give the cashier the authority to operate the cash register.

    Authority can be delegated and power cannot.  I can give you authority but I can't give you power.
