That just depends on what you want to do for a career. If you want to be a history professor, there's not a lot of use for calculus. Same if you want to be a city planner. But there are a lot of occupations where calculus is pretty useful. Economists need to use calculus. So do engineers. So do physicists. So the usefulness (or lack thereof) of calculus totally depends on what you want to major in or what you want to do for a career. Posted by pohnpei397 on Nov 11, 2009. |

It is common for people to think that they will never use a certain subject in life, whether it be calculus, geometry or biology. And the truth of the matter is that this might be true. However, these subjects serve a different function as well. They enable a person to develop their mental capacity to think well and think critically. So, the real question is this: does calculus develop a person's mind? And the answer is pretty clear - yes. From this perspective, all subjects help, especially hard ones, like calculus. I'm very glad that I took calculus in high school. I am sure it made me a better thinker. Posted by readerofbooks on Nov 11, 2009. |

Understanding the nature could be in many ways. Without understanding calculus anybody can live.Well , in school we study many things, with the hope that they help us.And calculus is like that. And without going to school also we can live. Calculus is perticularly a gift to us by Leibniz and another contemperory and all time great Newton, though the history of mathematics shows many others who worked and dealt with the study of vriation. It is a branch of mathematics developed to study variations. The variations and ratios in limiting cases is well dealt in, by the differential calulus. The opposite process of differential calculus is the integral calculus which enables us to determine the situation given the limiting ratio or derivatives. Differential equations dealing with derivatives in equations is another branch of calulus.Their aplications are there in all sciences and applied mathemetics. Wherever the variation occurs, to study it closely you require the help of calculus. So calulus has its vide scope and applications in almost all the branches where you have to study variations or limitting values, optimum values etc. It has contributed well in all branches of science , business, space, Astronomy, Dynamics, Statics etc. It has become an essential tool for us now to comrehend the variational aspect of anything.
