The Story:
Grace Hoylard and her helper, Elma Duckworth, were alone in a crossroads restaurant of a small Kansas town thirty miles west of Kansas City. They were keeping a lonely vigil in expectation of the arrival of the Kansas-City-to-Wichita bus that was due at 1:00 a.m. A raging blizzard left the restaurant deserted. Shortly before the bus was due, Will Masters, the sheriff, came in.
