All of the Yoknapatawpha stories and novels are related. The actions of "Barn Burning," "That Evening Sun," and "Red Leaves" occur in Faulkner's mythic county in northern Mississippi. Ab Snopes of "Barn Burning" also appears in The Unvanquished where he helps Rosa Millard sell mules to the Union army and eventually involves her in a scheme that leads to her murder. As the father of Flem Snopes, Ab has an important role in the Snopes trilogy The Hamlet, The Town, and The Mansion, which traces the rise of Flem, an even greater villain than Ab.
