There was something of a scramble in Hollywood to put out a movie of The Bridges of Madison County in order to capitalized on the book's popularity and to tap into the public's enthusiasm for it. The film was finally directed by Clint Eastwood, who at first glance may appear at odd choice — Dirty Harry does Madison County? — however, it turned out to be a good one.
