    It has been a while since I have read this book, but I truly love it.  I think major events that lead to the climax are Gemma's deathbed confession that the stories are true, Stan's decision to help Becca track down the truth, the discovery of someone who recognizes Gemma and sends Becca to Chelmo and finally the meeting with Joseph Potocki who tells Becca the true story of her grandmother.
