Brandeis Slang

Know the slang; know the school. The following is a list of things you really need to know before coming to Brandeis. The more of these words you know, the better off you'll be.

‘Deis

Short for Brandeis.

Kosher

Food that is prepared in conformity with the requirements of the Jewish law. On the most basic level, you cannot mix meat and cheese, cannot eat pork or shellfish, and can only eat meat killed and prepared a certain way. Half of Sherman is Kosher.

Oy

An exclamation one makes when they are either surprised or disgusted by something.

Pre-game

Getting drunk before going out to a party, club, or dance.

Shomer

A religious Jew who is not supposed to touch someone of the opposite sex.
