All freshman are actually required to live on campus, and housing is guaranteed for the entirety of your undergraduate years, unless you move off-campus.  76% of undergraduates currently reside in campus housing, and roommates are assigned before the freshman year on the basis of a short survey that is completed before students arrive on campus in the Fall.

You have to live on campus freshman year. The rooming system is usually a hit-or-miss. I lived in a suite with 4 other guys my freshman year. One of them made the experience unbearable (he didn't realize he was sharing the room with other people and did whatever he wanted). Now, I'm living with four more randomly matched guys and everything's great. The surveys cahusky mentions are far from perfect: it depends on if you're lucky or not!
