Posted by bmadnick on Thursday June 26, 2008 at 3:50 PMThe climax is the most intense moment of the story and usually occurs just before we know how the main conflict will be resolved. Flashback is used to show us what Bontsha's life was like on earth and his reaction to his trials and tribulations. Now that he's in heaven, the judge of the tribunal decides Bontsha can ask for any reward he wants because he withstood such agony on earth and never complained or spoke out against God or anyone else. This sets up the climax--what will Bontsha choose as his reward? His answer is to have only a buttered roll every day for breakfast, and this is the climax. Bontsha remains unchanged even in Paradise. His request silences all of the heavens until the prosecuting angel bursts out laughing.
