Does anyone know the name of the war referred to in "A Boat To Nowhere"?

    Hmmmmm, . . . you have to be careful about labeling A Boat to Nowhere for a "specific" war.  It is truly a book about the tragedies within "any" war, which is the author's point.  Still, some critics insist that the novel is truly about the Vietnam War.  That being said, I believe that you could prove it either way.  However, it is true that Maureen Crane Wartski is an expert on Southeast Asia, that she experienced the Japanese-American war first-hand, that she is definitely against the PRG (Provisional Revolutionary Government) in Vietnam, and that the book did happen to come out in 1980 (only five years after we left Vietnam).  My suggestion would be to read the sequel as well called A Long Way from Home, and then make an educated decision based on what you read in both books.
