What aspects of "Blood Wedding" make it a peasant drama? Is it simply to do with the time in which it was written?

    A peasant drama is one that deals mostly with characters and themes associated with an agrarian society.  While the time period is important, it is not central.  Peasant dramas could be written today, but would be more limited in the choice of settings because because so many agrarian communities have disappeared. 

    The significance of an agrarian community is that everyone works together.  As a community, they must live peacefully and symbiotically.  Each family relies on the help of others and must give help to others.  This is why Leonardo's and the Bride's actions are so heinous.  It isn't just that they have betrayed their significant others - they have betrayed the community.

    This short quote from the Mother summarizes the essence of the community:

    “Men, men; wheat, wheat"

    Men are dominate - wheat is dominate.  Men lead the community and it is the wheat that drives the community.  Each person is dependent upon the strength of the leadership and the strengeth of the crop.
