I’m a little obsessed with China lately.

Unfortunately, the Chinese-language Wikipedia has languished after the PRC government blocked it from being viewed. Wikipedia represents an alternate form of social organization, which is a threat to the party’s supreme position at the center of Chinese discourse.

But because there aren’t many wikipedians living in mainland china, we don’t get english translations of important subjects like the Las Vegas-style (in the worst sense) reconstruction of Qianmen Street.

Right now, the chinese wikipedia is unblocked for residents of beijing. But it’ll probably get reblocked as soon as the closing ceremony ends.
