The Brick Awards: Do Something Amazing

    Sunday, April 29th, 2007

We celebrate many things in America: babys’ first steps, birthdays, promotions, and homecomings. We also celebrate many people: sometimes historical figures and notable politicians but mostly celebrities–many of which have had neither a distinctly positive or negative impact in our lives. But for all the celebrating that we Americans do, there is a unique people group that make an effort daily to improve our society that receive very little recognition for the tremendous work that they do. This group is comprised of our volunteers, community service members, and icons of social change and they certainly deserve a celebration. In fact, maybe you are one of those volunteers.Have you done something inspiring to help those around you? If so, the Brick Awards may be able to give you the recognition and support you deserve.

The Brick Awards are for students in both Canada and the United States who have made an effort to effect social change and have acted as catalysts in their own communities, helping them to move into the future armed with knowledge from the past and a willingness to educate and serve others in the present.

Four students are awarded with the grand prize of $25,000. Twelve other students receive $10,000 in grant money towards their organization. For students under the age of 18, $5,000 of the grant money will be reserved for the student’s personal scholarship fund.

The application for 2008 is now available on the DoSomething.org website. Please visit this site for more details about the submissions process and to review the backgrounds of past winners.

If you’ve made a difference in your community by reaching out and sharing your ideas with others, you owe it to yourself to apply for this award. Not only does it give you the opportunity to earn grant money to further your cause but it allows America to demonstrate her profound appreciation for the impact that you have made.
