The Nascar Scholarship

Who doesn’t love a little fast-paced activity, adventure, excitement, and death-defying speed? Now there’s a scholarship with all of these qualities: the Nascar Common Knowledge Challenge.

The Common Knowledge Foundation sponsors the Nascar Common Knowledge Challenge, an annual contest. This scholarship tests your common knowledge about Nascar racing and generally related topics.

To be eligible to participate you must:

• Be a high school or college student or the parent of
either

• Be a United States citizen

• Register on the CKFS website

Once you have met the above criteria you are then eligible to take the Nascar Common Knowledge Quiz. For each correct answer students receive 500 points. Brush up on your Nascar facts before beginning.

This scholarship is available each year in March. One $250 scholarship is distributed.

Sports Journalism Scholarship

Have an interest in journalism, sports or both? This could be the scholarship opportunity that you’ve been waiting for.

Each year the NCAA Sports sponors the Freedom Forum-NCAA Sports-Journalism Scholarship Program. This program is designed to support and encourage students who are interested in pursuing a career in sports journalism and will give them an opportunity to demonstrate their talents to a scholarship committee.

The award is administered by the Freedom Forum by means of a grant from the NCAA. This is an annual scholarship program that rewards students whose work distinguishes them form their peers and, according to the website, “who have career goals in sports journalism and major in journalism or have experience in campus sports journalism.”

The scholarship is $3,000 and is awarded to eight students.

Eligibility requirements include:

  • Full time enrollment status in a college or
    university.
  • A U.S. citizen.
  • Students must be a college juniors entering their
    final year of study.
  • The goal of the program is to create an interest and passion for the freedoms of speech and press while encouraging students to develop quality journalism skills that can be applied later in their careers.

    Live in Oklahoma City? Like Sports? Looking for a Scholarship?

    Each year, the Oklahoma City Sports Association sponors the donation of two $1200 scholarships for outstanding students who have particularly excelled in high school athletics and who have demonstrated their leadership skills and service attributes in the surrounding communities. This association was formed in 1957; since, it has grown tremendously and now hosts over 220 events in the Oklahoma City area each year. The communities surrounding the Sports Association have greatly benefited from both the positive economic impact and the valuable family-friendly entertainment brought to the area through this remarkable non-profit organization.

    The annual scholarship offered by the Sports Association was created to further show its support of the families that continue to welcome their efforts and to provide encouragement to students who have proved themselves to be great athletes, worthy citizens, and generous contributors to their community. There are several eligiblity requirements that the Oklahoma City Sports Association has outlined for students interested in applying for this scholarship, including:

  • Students must be in their senior year of high school;
  • Currently enrolled in a 2 or 4 year college or university;
  • Carry a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher;
  • Obtain an ACT score of 22 or higher;
  • And live in the greater Oklahoma City Metropolitan Area.
  • In addition to these requirements, students must be actively engaged in sports related activities, demonstrate leadership and character, be involved in community service programs, and perform academically. Scholarships will be awarded to one male and one female student each year and must be used within 2 years of receipt. The checks will be issued directly to the school or university at which the student is enrolled.
