Fifty States, Fifty Opportunities for Scholarship!

Today kicks off our 50 states, 50 scholarship blog segment. In our efforts to serve students all over the country, we want to highlight scholarships from every state in the union.

We won’t get to every school, but we will be able to hit regions that are often neglected. How many scholarships do you hear about coming from Alaska? Well there are some and we think plenty of students will be interested. You never know where the perfect opportunity may pop up!

Speaking of Alaska…

Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium Scholarship and Internship Opportunities

File this one away for next year as the deadline for this year has passed, but it’s a great opportunity!

  • Five scholarships of five-thousand (5,000) dollars are awarded  per academic year in healthcare-related fields to full-time undergraduate students 
  • Five scholarships of five-thousand (5,000) dollars per academic year in healthcare-related fields to full-time graduate students
  • Students must be Alaska Native or American Indian permanent Alaska residents.

CPAI 2008 Scholarship Program
Another future scholarship! The ConocoPhillips Alaska scholarship program is open to Alaska high school seniors planning to attend an institution of higher learning, academic or trade school.

  • Seven $5,000 in-state scholarships and thirteen $3,000 general scholarships will be awarded to Alaskan high school seniors.
  • A panel of judges will select the winners based on each student’s future potential to contribute their knowledge and talents in Alaska. In addition, each student’s service to their community, service to their school, school achievements, and financial need will be taken into consideration.

Last Minute June Deadline Scholarships!

If you’re not out of school yet, take heart, you’re almost there and with the extra free time, why not pad your college dollars with a few more scholarships? These puppies all have a June 15th due date so make copies of your scholarship resume, double check your application and get a move on it!

Garden Crusader Awards from Gardener’s Supply Company

-Given to those who are improving the world through gardening!

Dorothy Payne Scholarship -American Association of University Women

-$5,000 grant for high school seniors who attend a public school in Buffalo, Niagara Falls or Lackawanna, New York school districts.

Polonia Foundation of Ohio, Inc. Scholarship

-Ohio State University students of Polish ancestry will receive grants between $750 - $1,500.

The Thomas P. Quinn Scholarship Fund

-Residents of New London County who will attend a four year college can win awards between $2,000 and $4,000.

-Students also need four letters of recommendation.

-Students must also submit SAT scores.

APA - Not Just a Writing Style

Many students know APA from the little style guides English teachers pass out before term papers are due. Well, besides telling people where to put a comma and how to cite books, the APA is also a place where psychology students, specifically graduate students can apply for a number of scholarships.

Psych students, break out your curriculum vitae and get moving, most of these scholarships are due on May 16th - yep, three days from now!

The Carol Williams-Nickelson Award for Women’s Leadership and Scholarship in Women’s Issues

Eligibility:

  • Be a female American Psychological Association of Graduate Students (APAGS).
  • Be in good academic standing in a doctoral program
  • Not an APAGS officers or subcommittee chair.

Required Materials:

  • A cover letter that includes the name of the award and introduction to application packet
  • A curriculum vitae
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Essay

University of North Carolina Pfizer Minority Medical Journalism Scholarship

According to their Web site, "the purpose of the Pfizer Minority Medical Journalism Scholarship is to improve the breadth and quality of reporting of health and medical issues in minority or disadvantaged communities."

This scholarship offers a $6,000 stipend per semester, tuition, health insurance for all four semesters of the master program. Whoo hoo!

To qualify:

* be regularly admitted to the Medical Journalism Master’s Program in the School;
* have submitted a completed application for the award, including academic transcripts, GRE test results, a curriculum vitae, a 500-word autobiographical sketch demonstrating motivation for and commitment to the intent of the award, three writing samples (preferably in journalistic form), and three letters of recommendation (which may be the same letters required for admission to the Program);
* have had an undergraduate grade point average of "B" (3.0 GPA) or better for the last two years of study;
* have completed previous studies in related fields such as journalism, basic sciences, English, literature, and/or public health;
* have prior work history or other demonstrated experience in journalism or health care;
* demonstrate financial need for this award (as determined by appropriate financial aid qualification procedures at the School).

Preference is given to minority and disadvantaged students. Application deadline is Jan. 1 for admission the following fall. For more information, contact Dr. Linden, director of the Medical Journalism Program, at linden@unc.edu.

The University of Texas Austin Frank Morrow Endowed Presidential Scholarship in Business Journalism

Eligibility Requirements:

  • GPA of 3.75 or above
  • You do not already have a bachelor’s degree
  • Taken courses in business, economics, accounting,
    marketing, and/or psychology
  • At least 45 hours in residence at UT Austin

It is a gorgeous April day - at least where I am - and I’ve got some great last minute scholarships for you. You can send me flowers later! All of these scholarships have an April 15th deadline.

Marriot Scholarship Fund
Eligibility:

-U.S. citizen or permanent resident residing in the United States or Puerto Rico
-Enrolled full-time in an accredited four-year college or university in the United States or Puerto Rico with a hospitality management program as an incoming college freshman, first year freshman or community college transfer.
-Must be pursuing or planning to pursue a degree within the hospitality management, hotel management, culinary or food and beverage field.
-GPA of 3.0 or better.

The Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting
* Must be Hispanic or of Hispanic descent
* Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident residing in the United States or Puerto Rico
* Must be studying at an accredited university in the U.S. or Puerto Rico for the upcoming academic year
* Must be (or plan to be) enrolled full-time for the upcoming academic year 2008-2009
* Must have earned and maintain a cumulative Grade Point Average of no less than 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
* Student must demonstrate financial need
* Must be pursuing a undergraduate or master’s degree in business, finance or accounting.

Last Minute Scholarship Opportunities!

These are close to the deadline - like right now - but, if you can get your stuff together and have a little cash for the overnight delivery, you may have a shot at these!

Mesa State College has a bounty of scholarships due April 1:
Mesa State College Academic (Colorado) Scholarship-WCCC
Criteria:
- Full time students Mesa State College
- GPA of 3.0 enrolled
- In a degree program within School of Applied Technology (WCCC programs).

American Business Women Association (ABWA) WCCC Scholarship

Criteria:
-Full time female Mesa State College
-Pursuing associate degree at WCCC
-Mesa County, Colorado resident
-3.5 GPA

American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA)
Deadline: April 1, 2008.

-The John L. Carey Scholarship awards ten $5,000 scholarships to liberal arts degree holders who are entering a graduate accounting program.

The AICPA Scholarship for Minority Accounting Students

- Declared accounting major with the intention of becoming a CPA
- Full-time undergraduate student (12 semester hours or equivalent) at a four-year or upper division institution, unless completing his/her final semester of study
- Successfully completed at least 30 semester hours (or equivalent) of college coursework, including at least 6 semester hours in accounting
- Maintained at least a 3.3 GPA (major and cumulative)
- A student of Black or African American; Hispanic or Latino; Asian; American Indian or Alaska Native; Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander; or of two or more races
- A U.S. citizen or permanent resident (green card holder)
- An AICPA Student Affiliate member
