Dance Scholarships!

Stretch out your jazz hands, pack up your leg warmers, channel your inner Julia Stiles, and get ready to audition for these great scholarships:

The Washington Post Music and Dance Scholarship Awards Program

This scholarship’s deadline has already passed but for forward-thinking, high school sophomores this is a great opportunity to look for next year. To apply, students need to be high school juniors who want $2,000! The checks will be mailed to the institution you attend. You must submit transcripts, an essay, and a performance video.

UNLV Dance Scholarship

Another scholarship to look forward to next year. It’s Vegas, baby! And this scholarship is for the kind of dancing that usually doesn’t involve poles.

Requirements:

  • A declared dance major.
  • Letter of intent.
  • 2 letters of recommendation.
  • A video with a 2-3 minute solo for freshman, new dance majors, and transfer students.
  • Transcript.

More music scholarships for the lyrically inclined!

The Williams Chorale Bacardi Fallon Scholarship Competition
High school juniors and senior who are into vocal or instrumental studies are eligible for this one.

The foundation will award over $10,000, including $8,500 in prize money to the top four high school students: $5,000 (first prize), $2,000 (second prize), $1,000 (third prize), and $500 to the Director’s Choice prizewinner. Mo’ chedda for your cello.

Even those who don’t finish in the top four will get $150. Not bad - that’s either one text book or a quarter’s worth of burritos.

Application deadline: March 18, 2008

Interested in Penn State? Well, those Nittany Lions have a gang of music scholarships! These scholarships do not require an additional application, students who apply and audition for acceptance into the School of Music have that audition used as the scholarship audition.

Louisa Esber, George Esber and Helen Vrungos Deal Memorial Awards in Music
Consideration given to full-time undergraduate and graduate piano and violin students currently enrolled in the School of Music.

Lyle Merriman Music Scholarships Consideration given to second, third and fourth-year undergraduate and graduate students in the School of Music who demonstrate exceptional musical talent and high academic standards.

Frank Gullo Scholarship Fund
Full-time undergraduate students music majors in voice in the School of Music in the College of Arts and Architecture.

Mona Shibley Bird Memorial Choir Scholarship
Consideration given to undergraduate students enrolled in the School of Music who plan careers as choral singers or directors.
