The Evalee C. Schwartz Foundation

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

The Evalee C. Schwartz Charitable Education Trust was created to provide students with another means of securing financial assistance in order to pursue their education.

According to the website, Ms. Schwarz “was the personification of leadership, entrepreneurialism and the philanthropic spirit. Though devastated by her husband’s death in 1984, Evalee rose above her grief and channeled her energies into mastering the intricacies of managing an automobile dealership. The considerable skills she acquired and exhibited throughout her professional life earned her a place in an elite minority when she was chosen by the Hyundai Corporation to be the first woman to acquire one of their dealerships in the United States.”

The trust she created has benefited countless students and served as an encouraging resource to help them overcome trials that may have otherwise stood in the way of their future.

To be eligible to receive assistance from this fund, students must:

  • Be enrolled in a state institution.
  • Be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Qualify for financial aid from the government.
  • Additional information and exceptions can be found on the Evalee C. Schawartz Charitable Education Trust website. The loans provided through the trust are interest free. Loan amounts vary and can range anywhere from $5,000 to $15,000.

    U.S. Fulbright Program

    Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

Grants like scholarships are an excellent way of securing funding for your future education. They come in all shapes and sizes and can apply to anyone from doctors to English majors. Students often confuse grants with student loans—unfortunately—and miss out on excellent opportunities to secure interest-free funding that does not need to be paid back.

For students interested in studying abroad, the U.S. Department of State sponsors the Fulbright Program, a resource for students seeking funding for their educational endeavors.

This program has been supplying students with the funding they need since 1946 and has donated more than $235 million, making it the largest international exchange support program in the United States.

According to the website, the purpose of the Fulbright Program is to:

“Bring a little more knowledge, a little more reason, and a little more compassion into world affairs, and thereby to increase the chance that nations will learn at last to live in peace and friendship.”

This program runs annually and is an excellent opportunity for students to secure funding for their international education. This year’s deadline is October 19, 2007, so now is the time to begin the application process if you are interested in pursuing this opportunity.

According to the website, the selection process is based upon the following:

    Language preparation and experience.

    Academic record.

    Student qualifications.

Preferences as determined by the Fulbright Program.

The approachability of the proposed project or study.

For more information about the Fulbright Program, visit the Institute of International Education for more details.

    The Biggest Scholarship Ever

    Sunday, August 26th, 2007

Biggest Scholarship.com is offering their annual “Biggest Scholarship.” This is a sweepstakes contest that all high school and college students are encouraged to participate in…and parents too!

It can be tempting to assume that if a scholarship is offered by means of a sweepstakes that it may be incredibly difficult to win since a sweepstakes is in reality a lot like the lottery. Just because you don’t think your odds are that great, however, doesn’t give you an excuse to brush off a chance at winning free cash to help with your college tuition. Scholarships–sweepstakes or other–are all just chances, opportunities to get your name in the hat one more time and further increase your chances of earning financial assistance.

The Biggest Scholarship is a one-time $5,000 award–an amount that can dramatically impact your future education and significantly reduce the burden of student loans. Registering on the site is all that is required; once you are registered you are automatically entered in the sweepstakes. While registering on the site, students have the opportunity to browse through the sponsors who have kindly made the award available. You aren’t, of course, obligated to buy a single thing…just to give up a little time to review advertisements.
