Synonym Toast

Thursday, November 13th by Carla

You’ve heard the expression, “You’re toast”? It gets a new twist at Synonym Toast, a fun interactive site.

On the toaster is a word. Pieces of bread fall from the top of the screen, and on each piece is another word. Click on the synonyms for the toaster word. The bread pops over to the toaster if it’s correct. If it isn’t, a buzzer sounds. After you click 5 correct synonyms, the toaster word changes.

You have 3 minutes to score as high a score as possible and earn a designation like “deft with definitions” or “word wizard.”

It looks like it’s designed for elementary students, but don’t let that fool you. The site automatically adjusts its level of difficulty and speed to match the success of the student, preventing frustration.

Don’t ask me how many times I played this game. It was a sacrifice, but it was necessary to bring you this in-depth report.

Ah, sacrificial lambkin! How giving of you! Big evil grin from ‘one who knows’ how many papers you are NOT grading tonight!

Thanks Carla! I love this and we are nearing the end of our school year in Australia so these kinds of games may save some sanity.
