Take That, L. Frank Baum…

Spawn creator Todd McFarlane is ready to give Baum’s The Wizard of Oz a “2007 wow factor”, which can only mean that he’s ready to ruin one of the most beloved stories in history. McFarlane is set to produce a darker reimagining of the story and characters much to the chagrin of everyone who’s not a 15-year old goth kid. With any luck, this project won’t get off the ground, but if it doesn’t, expect a terrifying remake of Charlotte’s Web.

The bad news is that they’re making a sequel to Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. The good news is that it could have been three sequels. There were four books in the Traveling Pants series, but for some reason all three will be condensed into the next film, which will be out next year. If you actually enjoyed the original film, please leave a comment to malign me for my poor movie taste.

Two new book adaptations are in theaters and at least one is maybe not terrible. The adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Stardust has been receiving mostly favorable reviews, even though it has its fair share of harsh critics, while The Nanny Diaries adaptation has found a much steadier group of disgusted and bored reviewers.

And finally, Shriek, a sci-fi novel by Jeff VanderMeer, has now been adapted into a film that you can download off the internet. The surrealist story, which I won’t bother to confuse you with, is supposedly translated quite well in the film, and since you can just go download it right now, go download it. Right now.
