Haruki Murakami Fans: Dolts…

Actually not that surprised
I’ve never been able to get into Captain Unicorn Skull, but I know some very intelligent people (girls) who really enjoy his work. But like many popular authors, a huge swath of his fan base are mouth-breathing dimbulbs. Time is allowing people to post their own question for Murakami, and they are, of course, the dumbest crap. There is somewhat of a balance thanks to questions like “Why are you novels so awful?”, but garbage like “What do you think about when you wake up in the morning?” makes me want to eat a magical illiterate pill. But, my loyal reader(s), now it’s your chance to come up with something even dumber. Do it.
The thirty best Shakespeare adaptations. Who else got to watch this Romeo & Juliet in school and had their teacher hold up the VHS box during the nude scene? I know you’re out there. On a related note, The Dark Knight is still fantastic.
Tao Lin says he wants to write a really short book which I translate as “I wrote a really short book and I’m writing this to justify it to the publisher so they’ll still put it out”. Wait, that post has now been deleted, proving my point. I am amazing. Also, I got that from Ed. Will he say something about Tao deleting something from his blog or does that only apply to Boing Boing?
That was a serious question.
Two Onion articles. This one is about John Cheever and this one is about some baseball player I don’t know but it has to do with McSweeney’s.
From Sarah Weinman, an interview with talented four-eyes Chris Adrian. Also, the writer of the piece almost has my last name. I’m sure you give a damn.
When I said only girls like Haruki Murakami, I meant only women. Sorry to the offended.
And finally, more Booker news because the ‘08 long list has been revealed. As The Millions mentions, even though no one really loved The Enchantress of Florence, if it wasn’t on there it would be a diss to the holy prince of Booker so they had little choice. I wouldn’t expect it to make the shortlist, though the Bookies (which is both the real word and a joke) have him as a top choice. Boo. I’m personally rooting for one of the other twelve books I haven’t read, though I have no clue which one. Any half-assed guesses?

No, there is no double standard. I honestly did not know that Tao’s post had been deleted until you pointed it out. And in any event, I don’t see any particular hypocrisy here. Certainly not anything in Cory Doctorow’s league.

And, incidentally, Tao has recycled some of the language in that previous post in this new post, which presents a rather interesting plan:
