You Into Salman Rushdie Pictographs?

It’s not actually pronounced like the fish

It’s the best I could do since once again I took a terrible picture of the man which I can’t figure out how to get off my phone. But no matter. Rushdie read to a reasonable crowd from his new The Enchantress of Florence and it wasn’t terrible. It wasn’t that great either and pretty much went like this- extended history lesson with dozens of unpronounceable foreign words separated by cliches with one amazingly crushing passage and then a guy farting. Seriously. So, take that for what its worth. But it was really awesome to at least see the man, and he was really funny and obviously insanely smart, and he looks exactly as Hobbitish as you’d expect. Also, the crowd was almost gracious enough to not bring up the damn Fatwa, but then some random lady asked “How did it affect your life, or did it?” to which Rushdie cordially said “Yes, there were people trying to kill me”. But then he told some really fascinating stories about having ridiculous security details and I was glad the woman asked, and was especially psyched that her date had an unironic mullet.

Via Ed, Henry Miller’s opinion of New York City.

Rawi Hage just won a hundred grand and beat out pretty much every major author in the world for a book named after this guy.

Totally sweet article on what booksellers have found in books. No mention of a toe, but stay tuned.

I guess that The Sound and the Fury play adaptation didn’t suck.

I’m a bit of a book snob, but I still agree with Booksquare.

Hope you like graphs.

Don Delillo has a companion coming out to make me feel like a fan who’s too stupid to get what he’s really saying.

I’m starting to wish Keith Gessen and everyone that reads Gawker for any reason would die.

And finally, from Gawker, Jonathan Safran Foer turned down some weird puzzle in a house thing because he said he just had a baby when in reality it’s because he knew it was haunted by Pinhead.
