So Many Totally Sweet Ezra Pound Pictures…

Sadness from not living with Google Image Search

I know the guy was maybe an anti-semite and just kind of an all around jerk, and this new biography of him is pretty blah, but I don’t know one other writer that has so many cool photos of himself. There’s the slender Russian, the criminal, the acid trip. Go look for yourself. Oh yeah, and don’t worry about the biography I mentioned. It seriously sounds super boring.

Apparently the Writer’s strike has led to more screenwriters switching to working on their novels. The pay is lousy and work much more difficult, but some writers are finding luck. There is an explicit mention, though, that a lot of books by screenwriters read like screenplays. And I still want to know who buys novelizations of books. Is there any reason anyone wants to read a book version of Meet The Spartans?

Ed has good things to say about Vollmann saying good things about train-hopping, and bad things to say about critics saying bad things about Vollmann.

And finally, James Wood talks characters at The Guardian. It’s a long, but at times very introspective look on how even supposed “flat” characters can still wield a mightily developed personality by the choice of just a few words. No doubt Wood has many references to choose from, but I’m surprised he would say so much about character since he’s never written a book. Oh, wait
