Some of Warren's poems about his Kentucky boyhood, especially those in Promises (1957) and You, Emperors, and Others (1960), as well as later collections offer similar insights and ironies about boyhood in rural Kentucky in the early years of this century. Moreover, a few of Warren's other short stories, such as "Testament of Flood" and "The Circus in the Attic" (1948; see separate entry) also published in the same volume as "Blackberry Winter," provide useful parallels to Warren's treatment of childhood and youth in the rural South.
