An ecosystem consists of two components - abiotic system and biotic system. Abiotic system refers to all the non-living things in the ecosystem. These will include factors such as nature of land, altitude, presence of lands rivers and other water bodies, , climate, soil type, etc. Biotic system refers to all the living beings in the environment including all plant and animal life. In an ecosystem the abiotic and biotic sub-systems interact to produce the total ecosystem.
The biotic factors in the ecosystem affect each other as well as the environment. Some animals depend on other animals for food, and many other animals depend on plants for food. The biotic life also depends on a biotic factors. For example vegetation depends on factors like climate, soil, and availability of water. In turn, the biotic life also affects a biotic factors. for example, fishes and other organism in water bodies also contribute to cleaning of water. Some insects and bacteria help to make soil more fertile.
