why did the Danes barried the treasure tha beowulf and Wiglaf recovered from the dragon?

i think its because they respected beowulf and  wanted to show that treasure was not worth his death. but i aslo thik it was beacuse they were keeping it in a safe place. or the Danes knew that the treasure was cursed. or The Danes didnt know the value of the treasure.. can someone please help me with the question?!
