Denver nurses her mother when she is sick. She also gets a job to help support her mother and 124. It can also be argued that Denver is more emotionally mature than Sethe. While she does act out for her mother's attention at the beginning of the novel, she quickly matures into the emotional stronghold of the house. Sethe becomes more and more dependent on Denver's support as the novel goes on.
