    Woodrow Prater and Gypsty Leemaster are 12 years old, 4'10" and 92 pounds each. 

    Gypsy is beautiful, sophisticated, and has long blonde hair.  She has a sense of humor and is somewhat insecure, feeling that her good looks prevent people from knowing who she really is.  She is also honest, and seeks truth, and so is able to grow in the story.

    Woodrow is described as a hillbilly, with crossed eyes and thick glasses.  His personality far overshadows his looks however, as he is vivacious and has a keen sense of humor and storytelling abilities.  He is also sensitive, caring, thoughtful, and somewhat naive.

    Amos, Gypsy's real father, is handsome and somewhat superficial.  When his face is disfigured in a fire, he cannot face the loss of his physical beauty and kills himself.

    Belle, Woodrow's mother, is also beautiful, and is often compared to Gypsy.  She is a dreamer, believes in magic, and perhaps has a different sense of reality, having disappeared, running away one night in only her nightgown.
