This poem is thought to have been based on an actual even in the poet's life. Wordsworth wrote this poem after he had been separated from his love, Annette and their child Caroline. He had not seen his daughter for a long time, so he equated all his feelings for her with the divine. Appreciating the setting sun, and sensing God's presence in the rhythm of nature.
