Why does Faulkner use third person limited narration in "Barn Burning"?

Why has he chosen not to see inside the mind of Mr Snopes?

    To hear the story from inside the mind of Mr Snopes would minimize the impact of his son's choice to betray him. It also raises more questions about why the character burns multiple barns. To be inside Mr. Snopes mind would be too obvious. It would also limit the impact of his actions on other characters. The reader would not see the reaction of the barn owners objectively, or the reaction of his son.
