Balloons are bags filled with light gas or hot air, that rise in air and float. Balloons filled with hot air are called hot air balloons. These are used for sports and for scientific investigation.

The bag of the hot air balloon are made of some light and strong fabric such as nylon or polyester. This bag has two opening one at the bottom called mouth and the other at the top called parachute. Hot air for balloon is generated by burning some relatively safer fuel such as propane, which rises up in the balloon through its mouth. The parachute, or the opening at the top is meant to control the descent of the balloon. It is covered by a circular valve. which can be opened by a pulling a cord. The decent of balloon can also be controlled by a rip panel with a triangular vent.

The burner of the balloon and a basket for carrying people and instruments is hang below the mouth and are attached to the balloon by means of strong tapes that are sewn into the bag. The basket is made of some light material such as wicker or aluminium. The burner is mounted on a metal frame and placed between mouth and basket.

For take-off the balloon is inflated partially by plain air. after that the burner is lighted to fill hot gas. When sufficient hot gas is filled in the balloon it rises up in the air. The further rise and descent of balloon is controlled bu adjusting the rate of burner, and the opening of parachute or vents.
