Babson Slang

Know the slang, know the school. The following is a list of things you really need to know before coming to Babson. The more of these words you know, the better off you’ll be.

The BABO – Babson’s Public Safety personnel.

BDE – The Babson Dance Ensemble.

BISO’S – A nickname for the International Students (it stands for Babson International Student Organization).

Blackboard – A place on the Internet with student-specific schedules, class assignments, and most importantly, the class syllabus.

Blackboard Postings – Students are sometimes required to type up assignments on Blackboard.

CAB – The Campus Activities Board. This group is in charge of the social activities.

Central, North, and South – The halls that make a semicircle around the Quad.

Coleman Hill – The steepest hill at Babson, on top of which Coleman Hall and Van Winkle Hall are located.

Facilities – This is the cleaning and fixing crew.

Forest – The only freshman hall on campus.

ITSD – The Information Technology Service Department.

Meals – you can use a certain amount of prepaid meals at Reynolds and Olin Halls; this is in addition to the Babson Bucks that are also on the OneCard.

Munch Money/Babson Bucks – The money put onto your OneCard as part of the meal plan, so students and teachers don’t have to carry cash.

The OneCard Office – The office where you can go to replace your card.

The Players – The Babson Players is a student-run drama club.

The Pub – Roger’s Pub.

The Quad – The grassy area in front of Park Manor North.

SigEp – Sigma Phi Epsilon.

Stalker Net/The White Pages – Babson’s computer page that shows a picture and some general information about the students, faculty, and professors.

Webster – The Webster Athletic Center at Babson.
