I suggest as much immersion in the creation process as possible, unrestricted access. Match that to a cool, objective review of the processes, artist experience, the business of being an artist. It's too easy to just let students play with the clay. Most artists could use a real solid no-BS course in basic small to medium size business management so that they can USE business and make sure it's never perceived as some sort of enemy of art and the artistic process. So teach the history of art, get out to shows, museums and active studios, talk to many pro and amateur artists and show them how art can instruct and add value to our lives. Primarily, it is discussion/workshop modeling that is used by most professors, with the occasional lecture thrown in. Posted by epollock on Jun 30, 2009. |
